Stock Market Game Information for Spring 2012

The spring session is from February 8 to May 18 with the competition ending April 13, 2012.  Research has shown that the Stock Market Game is a great way to teach or reinforce many of economic and personal finance concepts. This fun, real-life simulation also improves research, critical thinking and working collaboratively.  Student teams have a virtual $100,000 to invest in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Thanks to a generous grant from Scott & Stringfellow, a BB&T corporation affiliate, team fees have been lowered to $10 again this year for the spring sessions.

Free workshops and webinars conducted by the Virginia Council on Economic Education and affiliated university based centers for economic education are available to teachers to provide content and lesson plans for incorporating this valuable learning tool into existing curricula.  Click http://www.vcee.org/workshop/home for more details and to register.  Search under "topic" and choose "Stock Market Game Program."

The National Archives Experience Docs Teach
When we ask students to work with and learn from primary sources, we transform them into historians. Rather than passively receiving information from a teacher or textbook, students engage in the activities of historians — making sense of the stories, events and ideas of the past through document analysis.
